Terms of Service

These terms apply to two things: the ContextAI macOS app and this website, getcontext.today. By downloading or using the app, or by using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app or the site.

ContextAI is made and provided by the developers listed on the About page. The app is free: there is no subscription, no paid tier, and no user account to create.

Your license to use the app

You may download, install, and use ContextAI free of charge on any Mac you own or control, for any lawful purpose. The app is licensed to you, not sold; we keep all rights not expressly granted here.

Download the app only from the official link on this site: ContextAI.dmg. Do not redistribute the app — modified or not — through other sites or channels; share a link to this site instead. Do not present a modified build as an official ContextAI release.

Bring your own AI provider

ContextAI works with an AI provider that you connect yourself: a ChatGPT account, an OpenAI API key, or OpenRouter. Your relationship with that provider is your own:

  • Your provider’s terms and policies govern the text you send to it through ContextAI.
  • Any provider fees or API usage costs are yours. ContextAI adds no charge on top — you pay only what your provider charges.
  • You are responsible for keeping your API keys and provider accounts secure.
  • Your provider sets its own age and account requirements; you must meet them to use that provider through ContextAI.

Your content

Text you capture with ContextAI goes directly from your Mac to the AI provider you connected, to generate the summary or translation. We run no servers that receive, store, or process your content: the only server behind ContextAI hosts the app download and its updates, and the text you capture never reaches it. Your history stays local on your Mac. If you ask a plugin to send a result to another service, that result goes there directly from your Mac — see Plugins and integrations below.

For what this website measures (consent-gated analytics and cookies), see Privacy & Cookies.

Plugins and integrations

Plugins included with the app can send a result to a third-party service — for example Notion or Obsidian — when you ask them to. Your use of such a service is governed by that service’s own terms, and we are not responsible for it.

Acceptable use

Use ContextAI and this website only in ways that are lawful where you are. In particular, do not:

  • use the app to process content you have no right to use;
  • use the app in a way that breaks the terms of the AI provider you connected;
  • interfere with, or attempt to disrupt, the site or the download service;
  • misrepresent modified or repackaged builds as official ContextAI releases.

If you breach these terms, your license to use ContextAI ends.

Updates and availability

The app automatically checks our update server for new versions — on launch and about every six hours while it runs — and there is no setting to turn this check off. Updates are never installed silently: when one is available, the app shows it, and nothing installs until you choose to. For what the update check sends and what our server keeps, see Privacy & Cookies.

We may add, change, or remove features, and we may discontinue the app or the site. Because ContextAI is free, we do not promise that either will always be available, supported, or unchanged.

Disclaimers

ContextAI is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Summaries and translations are generated by the AI model you connected. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. Verify important content against the original before relying on it; ContextAI’s output is not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ContextAI and its creators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of — or inability to use — the app or the website.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, and nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Independence and trademarks

ContextAI is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI, OpenRouter, Notion, Obsidian, or Apple. All product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. The date below reflects the latest revision, and material changes will be visible on this page. Continuing to use the app or the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in effect; these terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the app and this website.
