About ContextAI

ContextAI is a free Mac app that summarizes and translates text from any app — select it, press ⌘C twice, and the result appears in the notch. This page is about the people who make it and how the app came to be.

Who makes ContextAI

ContextAI is built by three developers:

You can find the team on GitHub under the Context-Dev organization.

How it started

ContextAI began as a hackathon project. It outlived the event: colleagues kept using it, and so did we — so we kept improving it. We still develop ContextAI for the same reason: we use it ourselves every day.

How it’s built

A few decisions define the app:

  • Free, with no subscription. You bring your own AI provider — a ChatGPT account, an OpenAI API key, or OpenRouter — and pay only what that provider charges.
  • No content servers, no accounts. Your text goes directly from your Mac to the provider you connected, and your history stays local on your Mac. The only server we run hosts the app download and updates.
  • Invisible until called. A single ⌘C never triggers anything — only a deliberate double ⌘C does, and Escape dismisses the result instantly.
