# Privacy & Cookies — ContextAI

> How the ContextAI website uses analytics and cookies, and what the macOS app
> itself sends: the update check and optional anonymous usage analytics.

This note covers the **ContextAI website** (getcontext.today) — what it measures
and the cookies involved — and the two background connections the **ContextAI
macOS app** makes on its own. The text you capture is different: it goes
directly to the AI provider you connected, as described in the
[Terms](https://getcontext.today/terms/).

## What we collect

We collect anonymous, aggregate usage data to understand what's useful and
improve the page:

- **Google Analytics 4** — only after you accept analytics cookies. It records
aggregate data such as pages viewed, approximate region (derived from your IP
address, which Google anonymizes), device and browser type, and the referring
site. We do not collect your name, email, or precise location.
- **Cloudflare Web Analytics** — a privacy-first, cookieless measurement of
aggregate page views and performance. It sets no cookies and does not track
  you across sites.

## Cookies & your choice

Analytics cookies are off by default — nothing is set until you choose *Accept*
in the banner:

- **Accept** — Google Analytics sets its `_ga` cookies to measure repeat visits.
- **Decline** — no analytics cookies are set; Google Consent Mode keeps
  analytics storage disabled.

Your choice is remembered in your browser. To change or reset it, clear this
site's data / local storage and reload.

## The ContextAI macOS app

The app makes two background connections of its own. Neither ever carries the
text you capture:

- **Update check** — on launch and about every six hours, the app asks our
update server (api.getcontext.today, a Cloudflare Worker) whether a newer
version exists. The request identifies the app and its version — no captured
text, no account, no personal identifier. Our code keeps no record of who
asked; Cloudflare retains short-lived operational logs for a few days and, as
the host, sees your IP address to serve the request. There is no setting to
turn the check off; updates install only when you choose to.
- **Anonymous usage analytics** — the app sends anonymous product events to
Mixpanel (a US-hosted analytics service): which feature ran, from which app,
how long it took — under a random device identifier, with IP-based
geolocation disabled, and never any captured text, generated output, names,
emails, or account identifiers. Analytics is on by default; turn it off any
time with *Share anonymous usage data* in General Settings.

## What we don't do

No advertising, no selling or sharing of personal data, and no cross-site
profiling — on this site or in the app. We only want aggregate numbers.
